A Fyre Festival Spoof Movie Is Now In the Works, Starring Lonely Island and Seth Rogan
Back in April of 2017, right after the disastrous Fyre Festival, Seth Rogen tweeted about working on a film about a festival that goes ‘horribly wrong’.
The Lonely Island shared that tweet and added, “for real, thinking about suing Fyre Festival for stealing our idea.”

Now, in an interview with The Daily Beast, Jorma Taccone of the comedy trio says the film is actually a go. Taccone says the new movie will be a bit like their film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which was a mockumentary about the music industry as a whole.
Taccone says he doesn’t want to divulge too many details about the project, since the group is still working details out.
“You’ve seen the docs, right?” he asked the reporter. “It’s crazy. This is something that Akiva and Seth cooked up, and we’re figuring it all out right now.”
Taccone admitted that he had watched the Netflix documentary three times and became fascinated with it, especially Andy King’s story. The Fyre Festival event coordinator became an internet sensation after the documentary revealed he had performed oral sex to get Evian water bottles released from customs in time for the festival.
Taccone said in the interview that he would love to hire King for anything. “Hire that dude, that guy is a champion.”
Actually, King has reportedly drawn job offers and some unexpected fame from this Netflix Fyre confession.
Taccone is creating the spoof film in collaboration with other Lonely Island members, Akiva Schaffer and Andy Samberg. Seth Rogen is joining the trio to help write the satirical comedy. There’s no word on when we can expect the film to be released.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping debuted in 2016 to mixed critical reception. It starred Samberg as a former boy band member and his journey to do anything to stay relevant.
